Equip Products and Prairieland Adaptive
This past Saturday, we had the privilege of attending the very first Adapt & Conquer Expo, hosted by Prairieland Adaptive and Bradley University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program in Peoria, Illinois.
We’ve been working with Cody Birely for a couple of years, and it was an honor to participate in his first annual event at Bradley’s campus. Seeing his vision come to life — connecting youth, adults, families, and the community through adaptive fitness and sports — was truly inspiring.
Bringing Adaptation to the Gym Floor
At the Expo, we met with athletes, parents, and students to demonstrate how adaptive fitness equipment makes training possible for everyone. From modifying existing gym pieces to showcasing specialized tools, we showed how fitness can be safe, effective, and inclusive — side by side with anybody else in a gym.
Highlights included:
-
Demonstrating how wheelchair users can safely adapt gym equipment for strength and conditioning
-
Introducing parents and youth to innovative tools like the LapMat™, Leg Straps, and Multi Ropes™
-
Showing adults with impairments how there’s always a way forward when the right tools and support are in place
The excitement on the floor was contagious — proving once again that the desire to move, compete, and grow is universal.
Why Events Like This Matter
The Adapt & Conquer Expo wasn’t just an event — it was a statement. With a full resource fair and activity fair, the Expo provided opportunities for athletes to try a variety of adaptive sports and recreation activities, from para climbing to wheelchair sports. Local organizations, businesses, and caregivers came together to support the disability community, creating a space where inclusion wasn’t just talked about — it was lived.
As we finished unloading the Equip Van back home, we couldn’t help but reflect on the importance of this growing movement. Adaptive fitness and physical therapy are not just about equipment; they’re about empowering athletes of all ages and abilities to push their limits and thrive.
Looking Ahead
We’re grateful to Cody, Prairieland Adaptive, and Bradley University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program for inviting us to be part of this milestone event. The energy and community in Peoria remind us why we do what we do: making sure every athlete has the chance to succeed.
The future of adaptive sports and therapy is bright, and we’re excited to keep moving it forward — one event, one tool, and one athlete at a time.
